Purpose of the role

Overview of the role:  

The purpose of this role is to assist with the smooth running of the ZSL Biobank consisting of dry, wet and frozen collections. This involves auditing, curation and maintenance of Biobank collections, and data management. The Biobank Technician will fulfil loans of Biobank samples to ZSL staff and researchers for public engagement and academic research and will assist in the development of Biobank procedures and protocols.

Key responsibilities:  

  • Sample processing and handling
  • Database management and record-keeping
  • Process applications for samples
  • Engage and communicate with stakeholders

About You

  • Technical laboratory experience
  • A BSc degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences or a related scientific field 
  • Advanced skills in using MS office packages, specifically Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with equivalent software packages will be acceptable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work independently and within a team
