Purpose of the role

As a First Aider at London Zoo, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of both our visitors and staff. You’ll respond to first aid incidents quickly, calmly, and professionally, providing reassurance and confidence in challenging situations.

Alongside delivering hands-on support, you’ll also take responsibility for the essential administration that underpins effective first aid, including completing incident reports and assisting with investigations when required. This is a unique opportunity to combine practical care with organisational skills in one of the world’s most iconic zoos.

This is a 2-year fixed-term role, offered at 24 hours per week, with regular weekend and bank holiday working. 
 
 

Key responsibilities

  • First Aid Response: Administering first aid and responding to all first aid incidents across the site including assisting in any emergency situations
  • Emergency Liaison: To liaise with emergency services, duty managers and security department as required.
  • Equipment Maintenance: To ensure that the equipment held in the First Aid Post is clean and in good working order.
  • Policy Awareness: To keep informed and up to date of ZSL’s relevant policies and procedures.
  • Visitor Interaction: Be part of our friendly zoo operations team interacting with members and paying visitors that you encounter.
  • Operational Support: Working with the zoo operational teams with events and commercial activity as required.

About You

  • A qualified First Aider with experience of delivering first aid in a visitor attraction setting. 
  • Confidence in ensuring equipment is in good working order. 
  • Experience of supporting visitors and staff at all levels, whilst maintaining confidentially at all times. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to triage accordingly. 
  • Comfortable working outdoors and is happy to do so in all weather conditions.
  • Holds a full UK driving license. 
An enhanced DBS check will be required in addition to standard pre-employment checks, including the candidate's right to work in the UK.
