Purpose of the role

Overview of the role:  

The role of a seasonal Railway Fireperson is to assist with the daily operational requirements of  the Railway Engines and rolling stock to enable the service to be ready for visitors. The operation includes Steam and Diesel powered locomotives with passenger carriages. The role involves Driving/Firing Steam locomotives.

 

Key responsibilities:  

  • To ensure all daily notices are read before starting turn of duty
  • Ensure steam locomotive is ready in good time for service
  • To follow all safety checks when coupling to carriages
  • Ensure correct signalling procedures with station staff
  • Awareness of animals during each journey
  • To adhere to laid down practices outlined in the Rule Book

 

About You

  • Previous experience in Firing steam locomotives
  • To maintain the cleanliness of the fleet to a suitably high standard
  • To be committed to professional self development through participation in in-service training
  • To undergo Footplate Examinations as required
