Purpose of the role

As an essential part of the team, you’ll play a dynamic role in supporting our mission and keeping things running smoothly. You’ll take the wheel in driving and maintaining a fleet of vehicles, performing routine checks to ensure everything is in top shape. Your work will be diverse and impactful, transporting everything from materials and animal food to waste and even the animals themselves.

You’ll be on the move across key areas, including stores, post room, animal food storage, and the warehouse, and play a key role in facilitating seamless transport between Whipsnade Zoo and London Zoo. Every day will offer new challenges and exciting opportunities to make a real difference. 

This is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week.
 
Key responsibilities:  
  • Drive a variety of vehicles including cars, vans, and C1 vehicles, ensuring safe and efficient transportation across the site.
  • Perform manual handling duties, including lifting heavy items and delivering or collecting goods between internal and external locations, including between Whipsnade Zoo and London Zoo, as well as loading and unloading lorries.
  • Maintain excellent site presentation by regularly litter picking, emptying bins, and cleaning various items and areas to meet business needs.
  • Assist with setting up events or functions, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Conduct regular vehicle washing, cleaning, and safety checks to ensure all vehicles are in optimal condition.
  • Manage deliveries, including receiving goods, preparing orders for dispatch, storing items, moving stock, and conducting quality control checks while accurately recording stock figures.

About You

  • Full clean driving licence, including the C1 category, with the ability to safely operate a variety of vehicles.
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions, ensuring tasks are completed regardless of the elements.
  • A solid standard of literacy and numeracy, essential for carrying out day-to-day tasks accurately.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and interact with a wide range of people.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends and bank holidays as required, ensuring continued support and operations.
